ASHE ICRA 2.0® Training Program
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | 7 CECs
ASHE Member: $635.00
Nonmember: $755.00
Health care facilities are meant to provide care and life-saving support to patients. Yet, the intersection of construction, renovation and maintenance (CRM) activities and health care can raise the risks of secondary infections at a rate of 5,000 deaths per year. It is critical that all parties involved in these activities not only know the risks but take comprehensive action to control infection spread.
By becoming a trainer for your facility, you will be able to:
- Expertly assess infection control risk in maintenance, renovation, and construction projects.
- Train members of your team to engage ASHE ICRA 2.0 through a mix of online modules and in-person training.
- Establish a communication plan among workers and staff to engage infection prevention practices to protect the community.
- Promote a culture of health and safety through ongoing training to protect occupants from secondary infections during their treatment and care.

Troubleshooting Project Management Mishaps
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | 4 CECs
ASHE Member: $275
Nonmember: $375
Any experienced project manager knows the truth in the adage, “The only project without problems is the one that’s never built.” But how many of those problems could be prevented with a better strategy or a different approach? In this session, attendees will learn to diagnose and prescribe better approaches to project management through a hands-on strategy session. Participants will work with peers to review the mistakes of past projects, pinpoint issues and share strategies to learn from and improve upon those missteps.
- Consider the eight project management phases and the common issues that occur in each.
- In groups, select and dissect a past project management mishap to identify the key variable that led to the challenge.
- Identify solutions and prescribe an action that the team should have taken.
- Bring back new ideas and resources to share with your own project teams.

NEW: Resource Preservation Without Compromise: Advancing Patient Safety, Innovation, and Sustainable Healthcare Design
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Member: $275
Nonmember: $375
Presented in Collaboration with Facility Guidelines Institute® and the Green Building Initiative®.
Healthcare facilities are resource intensive due to the demands of patient safety, infection prevention, resiliency, and continuous operations. This interactive half-day workshop explores how healthcare organizations can preserve energy, water, materials, and financial resources while improving care outcomes. Participants will examine how organizations such as Facility Guidelines Institute and Green Building Initiative support sustainable healthcare design through aligned codes, guidelines, and certification goals. Through case studies, group exercises, and collaborative planning activities, attendees will develop practical strategies that strengthen safety, resilience, operational efficiency, and high-performing healthcare environments.
- Explain why healthcare facilities require high energy and resource utilization to maintain patient safety, infection prevention, and operational resilience (loss prevention).
- Analyze how resource preservation strategies such as energy efficiency, water conservation, material stewardship, and operational optimization can strengthen healthcare delivery and financial sustainability.
- Describe how GBI and FGI incorporate resource stewardship principles while maintaining evidence-based requirements to improve outcomes.
- Evaluate how correlation between FGI and GBI criteria supports innovation and helps healthcare projects move beyond minimum compliance toward high-performance outcomes.

NEW: From the Floor Up: Aligning Design, Cleaning, and Nursing Practice for Safer Healthcare Environments
1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Member: $105
Nonmember: $205
This session will explore the critical relationship between material selection, cleaning practices, and clinical outcomes, with a focused deep-dive on flooring performance in healthcare environments. Building on established research and industry practices, this interdisciplinary team of industry experts will examine how durability, cleanability, and product specification must align with real-world operational demands.
A key component of this discussion will elevate the nursing perspective as essential to the planning and design process. Nurses are not simply end users of the environment—they are continuous operators whose workflows, safety, and physical demands are directly impacted by flooring performance. Their day-to-day interaction with flooring surfaces uniquely positions them to identify early signs of failure, safety risks, and operational inefficiencies.
The session will also address the gap between prescribed cleaning protocols and actual clinical practice. Flooring and surface materials must withstand high-frequency cleaning, varied disinfectants, and inconsistent application methods. When products are incorrectly specified or degrade over time, the result can include compromised infection prevention, increased safety risks such as slips and trips, and diminished patient perception of cleanliness.
In addition, panelists, through conversations and a case studies, will explore the impact of flooring on staff fatigue, injury risk, and equipment maneuverability. Flooring that does not adequately support the movement of beds, lifts, and mobile equipment can increase physical strain on staff and introduce avoidable safety concerns. Conversely, well-specified flooring can improve staff comfort, reduce fatigue over long shifts, and support safer patient handling and mobility.
To illustrate these concepts, the session will begin with a comparative scenario: a nurse transitioning from a unit with high-glare, unforgiving flooring that contributes to fatigue, safety concerns, and environmental dissatisfaction, to a unit where flooring and interior finishes are intentionally selected to support staff well-being, operational efficiency, and patient recovery. This contrast reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the inclusion of clinical voices throughout the design and specification process.
Panelists will also share insights on product research, testing standards, and the importance of aligning material selection with environmental services practices, sustainability goals, and long-term performance expectations.
